Team USA Opens World Cup Season
OSTERSUND, SWE (November 24, 2013) – Team USA - Annelies Cook (Saranac Lake, NY), Susan Dunklee (Barton, VT), Tim Burke (Lake Placid, NY) and Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) - opened
the 2013-14 IBU World Cup season with a 12th place finish in the 2x6+2x7.5
mixed relay (1:21:32.3/5+14). The Czech Republic (Vitkova/Soukalova/Vitek/Moravec)
won with a time of 1:17:05.6/0+8, Norway (Berger, Solemdal, Christiansen, Boe)
took 2nd (1:17:15.8/1+12), and Ukraine (Pidhrushna,
Semerenko,Semenov, Deryzemlya) finished 3rd (1:18:16.8/0+12).
Cook led off the first leg for Team USA, leaving prone
in 9th place after the first stage. Encountering gusty wind at her
standing stage, Cook picked up three penalties and Team USA dropped to 21st. Dunklee then
cleaned prone and brought the team up to 19th . Burke cleaned prone
and standing (with two extra shots) to take Team USA up to 14th. At
the last leg, Burke tagged off to Bailey with the team sitting in 13th.
Bailey cleaned prone with one extra shot, moving the team up to 11th.
Bailey picked up one penalty in standing, leaving the range with Team USA in 12th
place to the finish.
“Gusty winds tonight created challenging shooting conditions
for everyone and an unpredictable race,” said Dunklee. “The first race of the
season is always a wake-up call to the body and I hope to improve in our next
races later this week.”

IBU World Cup 1 Schedule
Cup Wraps in Idre
Four hours southwest of Ostersund, IBU Cup 1 concluded
with a second day of sprint events. Hannah
Dreissigacker (Morrisville, VT) posted the top finish for Team USA, 28th
(25:44.1/2+3) in the women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint. Lanny Barnes (Durango, CO) finished 85th (28:52.6/4+3). Valentina
Nazarova (RUS) won today’s race with a time of 23:06 (1+0). Extended results

Hakkinen (Kasilof, AK) placed 41st in today’s 10km sprint with a time of 28:23.4
(1+2). Jeremy Teela (Heber City, UT)
finished 46th (28.30.4/2+3), and Sean Doherty (Center Conway, NH) posted a time of 29:14.2 (1+5) for
a 65th place finish. Russia’s Andrei Makoveev won the sprint with a
time of 26:39.8 (1+1). Extended results from the men’s sprint are available

Ostersund to compete in the remainder of World Cup 1.
