CANMORE, Alberta (February 15, 2012) - With outstanding shooting and strong skiing, Lanny Barnes (Durango, CO) raced to a second place finish in today’s IBU Cup 15K Individual in Canmore, Alberta. Posting a time of 44:50.8/0+0+1+0, Barnes was just 8.2 seconds back from Marina Korovina (RUS) winning today with a time of 44:42.6 (1+0+1+0). Megan Heinicke (CAN) took third (45:00.5/0+0+0+1).

Barnes’ twin sister Tracy Barnes (Durango, CO)  finished 11th (47:54.9/1+1+1+0), Hannah Dreissigacker (Craftsbury, VT) finished 16th (49:55.9/1+2+0+1) and Laura Spector (Lenox, MA) placed 24th (51:09.8/1+2+0+2).

“ It has been a blast racing here in Canmore,” said Lanny. “The weather has been perfect and it is always nice to be in the Rocky Mountains. Even though I am still a long ways from home, this is as close to home as I will ever get for an international competition and I'm still in the Rockies, so it feels like home here.”

“I was really happy with the race today. I probably started out a little harder than I wanted too and lost a little time in the end, but was happy that my skiing is coming around. I was bummed that Tracy wasn't right in there with me, but she is just getting over a cold otherwise I think she might have give me a run for the money! We had really great skis today, our ski techs have done a great job and have given us our best skis all year. It was also nice to have the coaches and my teammates out there cheering for me during the race. It definitely helps you push a little harder. I would have like to clean today and in the other two races, but there is always tomorrow,” she added.
