Cindy McElhinney

Director of Programs


Cindy McElhinney is director of programs at Darkness to Light (D2L), a national nonprofit organization based in Charleston, S.C., that is dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse.  With more than 17 years experience in product management, project management and customer support, McElhinney is leading D2L’s efforts in product development and supporting a large network of program providers.  


Prior to joining D2L in 2009, McElhinney worked for Blackbaud, a leading supplier of software solutions for nonprofits. McElhinney spent her first eight years at Blackbaud in customer support hiring and managing large teams responsible for providing end-user support.

McElhinney moved on to create the product management function at Blackbaud. She served as product manager for Blackbaud’s flagship product, The Raiser’s Edge, where she was responsible for gathering customer requirements, working with product development on the implementation of features, incorporating customer feedback into the product lifecycle and working with the sales and marketing teams on bringing new products to market. Through a long and successful career at Blackbaud, Cindy is well versed in business process analysis and improvement, defining and articulating software requirements, marketing and product positioning as well as process improvement and change management.  


During the past three years at D2L, McElhinney has worked tirelessly to position D2L as the leader in prevention programs. She is passionate about child sexual abuse prevention and is committed to ensuring that D2L programs are widely accessible and the most effective at educating the mind and moving the heart of adults so that all children are protected.  


McElhinney has a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Hofstra University.  She has been married to her husband, Paul, for almost 20 years and has two teenagers.
