Although the laws of each state are different, each has both criminal and civil laws. These laws help prevent child sexual abuse. Some states define child sexual abuse in general terms, while other states have determined certain acts are, by themselves, acts of child abuse.

Most states ban child prostitution and the making of child pornography. Find out how your state defines child sexual abuse, and visit Childwelfare.gov for more information.
