COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With less than a year before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, the personal journeys of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team hopefuls are more accessible than ever before as part of the Road to Sochi on TeamUSA.org. Headlining the increased accessibility is an extensive roster of Team USA bloggers – 26 athletes representing all seven Olympic and three Paralympic winter sports – who will actively share their personal experiences as they strive to represent Team USA at the 2014 Games.
“Having Team USA athletes provide first-hand accounts of their journey to the Sochi Games has added yet another dimension to the already well-rounded TeamUSA.org platform,” said John Pierce, United States Olympic Committee managing director of marketing services. “We are incredibly appreciative of the level of support we’ve received from participating athletes who are helping to paint a true 360-degree picture of the Olympic and Paralympic experience for fans of all ages and backgrounds."
Team USA's Sochi 2014 blogging roster includes a mix of athletes from across the United States with varying levels of Olympic and Paralympic experience and also unique personal backgrounds. Content will focus primarily on the athlete's personal experiences within and around sport, but also share expert advice on living a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle. Most importantly, these posts will give athletes the opportunity to tell their stories to the U.S. public in advance of the Games.
"What Meryl and I strive to do when writing for TeamUSA.org is give a behind-the-scenes and personalized look into our lives as we prepare for Sochi," said Charlie White, a 2010 Olympic silver medalist in ice dance, and partner of Meryl Davis. "And, as much fun as we've had writing, it's been just as much fun for us to read about the journeys of athletes from other sports."
Selected for a variety of reasons, including their athletic accomplishment and promise, level of social engagement, and personality traits, the following athletes will each contribute at least 12 blog posts from now through the Sochi 2014 Games. Blog posts and additional information on these athletes can be accessed at TeamUSA.org/winterblogs.
