The countdown is on to the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in exactly 100 days in Nanjing, China. The Youth Olympic Games are an elite sporting event for athletes ages 15-18. While the sports program is based on the 28 sports of the Olympic Games program, the Youth Olympic Games feature new disciplines and formats such as 3-on-3 basketball and mixed gender and mixed nation events in several sports. More than 3,500 athletes are expected to compete in 222 events from Aug. 16-28, while also taking part in the YOG's Culture and Education Program that is based around five main themes: Olympism, social responsibility, skills development, expression and well-being and healthy lifestyles. The 2014 Youth Olympic Games mark the second summer version of the Youth Olympic Games, after the event debuted in Singapore in 2010.
