Team USA Sweeps Day One
In the opening game it was close in the first quarter as after one USA Red led just 4-2. They then broke things open in the second quarter thanks to two goals by Jeff Powers, he would go on to score four on the evening. Dreason Barry also made his presence felt in that quarter tossing in two goals from the two meter spot. The second half saw more of the same as USA Red pushed their lead out to 13-4 headed to the fourth with five different players scoring goals. The fourth quarter saw no change as USA Red piled on some more and went away winners 17-6.
Genai Kerr did the job in net turning aside five shots while also adding a team high four steals.
The second game of the night saw USA Blue take advantage from the opening sprint. They built up a 3-0 lead and then a 5-3 advantage thanks to two goals apiece from Tony Azevedo and Jesse Smith. In the second quarter the scoring continued for USA Blue with Peter Varellas scoring the first of his five goals to help build an 11-4 lead at the half. The third quarter saw a lull in scoring as USA Blue only increased things to 13-5 headed to the fourth. In the final stanza JW Krumpholz put on a show scoring three straight goals from the set position the final coming on a behind the back toss to beat the goaltender. Merrill Moses was solid in net discarding 10 shots on the evening.
