MEDIA ADVISORY: USOC and USA Weightlifting to Host Media Teleconference Previewing 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Weightlifting The United States Olympic Committee and USA Weightlifting will host a teleconference Wednesday, May 14 at 11:30 a.m. MDT (1:30 p.m. EDT) with U.S. weightlifters Cheryl Haworth (Savannah, Ga.), Natalie Woolfolk (Arnold, Md./Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Kendrick Farris (Shreveport, La.) as they prepare to participate in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Weightlifting, May 16-17, in Atlanta, Ga. At the young age of 24, Haworth already has an Olympic bronze medal (2000 Olympic Games) to her credit and has represented the United States in two consecutive Olympic Games (2000 and 2004). She was only 17 years old when she won the bronze medal in the super heavyweight division at the 2000 Olympic Games, the first time for women's weightlifting to be contested on the Olympic stage. Haworth enters the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials as the No. 4 ranked female lifter. Woolfolk, currently ranked No. 2 going into the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, earned a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games and is a three-time national champion and holds the American record in the snatch. She was named USA Weightlifter of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Competing in the 63kg weight class, she will hope to qualify for her first Olympic team. Farris enters the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials as the No. 1 ranked U.S. lifter based on his performance at the 2008 Pan American Championships in Callao, Peru in March 2008. Farris was alsothe 2007 National Champion in the 85kg weight division and was honored with the Best Lifter Award at the 2007 National Championships. Farris has also been a member of the 2007 Pan American and the 2006 and 2007 World Championship teams.
