USA Pentathlon Rounds Out 2008 U.S. Olympic Team As Sam Sacksen Joins Team and Janusz Peciak and Michael Cintas Named Coaches

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Pentathlon now has a full roster for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team as Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa./Colorado Springs, Colo.) joins Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo./Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force), Sheila Taormina (Livonia, Mich.) and Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark./Colorado Springs, Colo.) as a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team that will represent the United States in the sport of modern pentathlon at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Sacksen received his invitation to the 2008 Olympic Games in the second allocation of Olympic invitations by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM), the International Governing Body for the sport of modern pentathlon. Sacksen and Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas/Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) both received Olympic invitations through this second allocation, but as stipulated by UIPM rules for Olympic participation, each NOC can be represented by a maximum of two men and two women. Therefore the U.S. tiebreaker of ranking in World Cup points was instituted and Sacksen earned his first Olympic berth.

Leading the United States Modern Pentathlon Team for a sixth consecutive Olympic Games will be head coach Janusz Peciak (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Peciak won the Olympic gold medal for his home country of Poland in modern pentathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He also competed in the 1972 and 1980 Olympic Games. Peciak will be joined by Michael Cintas (Rancho Mirage, Calif.) who will serve as the riding coach for the team. Cintas has served as the riding coach for the USA Pentathlon Team since 2003, this will be his first year on an Olympic staff. Scott Novack (Colorado Springs, Colo.), the High Performance Manager for USA Pentathlon, will serve as Team Leader.
