BEIJING (AP) President Bush has left China, ending his weeklong trip to Asia.

The president departed on a high note Monday, watching American swimmer Michael Phelps win his second gold medal as the men's 400 freestyle relay team staged a stunning comeback at the Beijing Olympics. He also threw out the first pitch at a practice men's baseball game between the U.S. and Chinese teams.

But he heads home to deal with the growing crisis over Russia's military operation in Georgia. Earlier in the day, Bush sharply criticized Moscow's harsh military action in the former Soviet republic, saying the violence is unacceptable and Russia's response is disproportionate.
