|Aug 08||Media watchdog stages Chinese radio protest|
PARIS (AP) A France-based media watchdog has made an unauthorized radio broadcast from Beijing criticizing Chinese censorship and crackdowns on activists.
Reporters Without Borders says its activists in Beijing used transmitters and a home-made antenna to broadcast on an unused FM frequency in the Chinese capital.
The 20-minute program aired Friday ahead of the opening of the Olympic Games, in Mandarin, English and French.
Chinese human rights activists speaking on the program urged the government to relax state control of the media. The watchdog's head Robert Menard urged the release of imprisoned journalists.
The group, also known as RSF, has staged protests around the world against China's hosting of the Olympics because of its human rights record.
