BEIJING (AP) Former President Bush has paid a visit to the U.S. Olympic training center at Beijing Normal University, shaking hands and taking pictures with American athletes.

Bush met Thursday with members of the U.S. judo and table tennis teams as he made his way through the facility, where 22 American teams are training for the Beijing Games. He also filmed an interview with NBC's "Today" show.

As he left, Bush - wearing a U.S. Olympic blazer pronouncing him an "honorary captain" - stopped to shake hands with shot-putter Adam Nelson and tell pole vaulter April Steiner-Bennett a joke as she presented him with a bag of U.S. Track and Field gear.

Bush wasted no time digging inside. After getting in the backseat of his vehicle, he rolled down the window to give a thumbs-up while wearing a hat he pulled from the bag.
