Accreditation

Accreditation

The International Olympic Committee establishes a limited quota of “E” (press) accreditations for the Olympic Games and Olympic Winter Games, which the United States Olympic Committee distributes to U.S. media outlets. The USOC and a committee composed of Associated Press sports editors, along with representatives of magazines, newspapers, websites and photographers determine press allocations.

The accreditation process for non-rights holding broadcasters is managed directly by the IOC. Further details on this process can be found at Olympic.org.

Rio 2016 Olympic Games

The deadline to request media accreditation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is Nov. 30, 2014. The application can be found at TeamUSA.org Rio Accreditation

The Olympic media accreditation process is open to:
• Daily or weekly newspapers
• National news or sports magazines
• Web-based organizations with staff members providing original content
• Photographic media organizations with wide-ranging magazine, newspaper and web-based clientele

All requesting organizations must be based in the United States and meet the guideline standards included on the registration site. Late requests will not be considered for the first allocation and will be placed on a waiting list for later consideration.

The USOC received a very limited number of accreditations from the International Olympic Committee for allocation to U.S. media outlets. The USOC and a committee composed of Associated Press sports editors, along with representatives of magazines, newspapers, websites and photographers will meet in early 2015 to determine allocations. Requesting organizations will be notified of the results in March 2015.
