Are you ready for some Football?
This past Monday night, I joined a few of my fellow Olympic medalists Jordan Burroughs, Cullen Jones, Lia Neal, Carli Lloyd and Tobin Heath at MetLife Stadium to check out the New York Jets against the Texans. This past weekend, the NFL league including players, referees and stadiums have been adorned in pink to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and so we added a little pink to our usual patriotic attire to show our support as well.
They had us come to the stadium early and we got to check out the teams warming up on the field. It is AMAZING how big and fast NFL players look up close. I’ve heard so much about Tim Tebow that it was cool to see him from only a few feet away running around and throwing footballs.
It feels really great that many of the professional teams around the country support our U.S. Olympic Team. Many NFL teams have had Olympians out to games and had them on the field to be recognized. Special thanks to the NY Jets and all their staff for making us feel especially welcomed at the game.
During the first quarter, we had our moment being announced on the field as we ran out into the Jets end zone and the crowd cheered for us. Feels really amazing to be standing in front of 60,000+ USA fans to have them cheering for you. I can only imagine what it would be like to compete at an Olympics in the USA. Hopefully we’ll have one here soon!
I’ll be helping to support the Olympic movement next week at the USOC’s Team for Tomorrow event at the Vanderbilt YMCA in NYC where we will be promoting the Olympic ideals to youth and hoping to inspire them to achieve their dreams!
