PERSONAL: Born Dustin Joseph Watten in 1986… Parents are Jeff and Kim Watten… Dustin has two brothers named Cody and Chris… Dustin attended Wilson High School in Long Beach and graduated in 2004… He played volleyball all four years… Dustin was a first-team, all-league, MVP and Long Beach Press-Telegram "Dream Team" pick his senior year… He was a second-team, all-league selection his junior season... In 2004, Dutin helped lead Wilson to an undefeated Moore League Championship and CIF quarterfinal finish… Dustin also competed on the Riptides volleyball club in Manhattan Beach (2002-04)... He won a bronze medal at the 2002 Junior National Championship and a gold medal and All-Tournament recognition at the 2004 Junior Nationals… Dustin is an accomplished beach volleyball player with an "AA" rating… He attended Long Beach State from 2005-09, graduating with a degree in communications studies… He played at Long Beach under U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Alan Knipe… Dustin’s favorite food is Sushi… His favorite book is 1984… His favorite musical group is Earth, Wind and Fire… His favorite team is the L.A. MAJOR INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2011 - During the winter of 2011-12, Dustin played for Raision Loimu in Finland... Dustin played on the U.S. Pan American Cup squad that won the silver medal in Canada. He started all 16 sets and was credited with 23 digs and 4 receptions. 2010 – Helped the U.S. Men's A2 Team, win the gold medal at the Pan American Cup in San Juan, Puerto Rico. 2009 – Helped the U.S. Men's A2 Team win the gold medal at the Pan American Cup in Chiapas, Mexico.
COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: 2009 – AVCA All-American Second Team… Set Long Beach State records with 358 digs and a 3.25 per game dig average during his senior season. He also set a single-season record for most matches with 10-or-more digs (23), as well as the career record for most matches with 10-or-more digs (43). Watten ranked third all-time in career digs at Long Beach State with 799, while ranking third in the country this year in digs per game (3.25). Watten's two 20-dig matches in 2009 marked the first time in school history a 49er has had multiple 20-dig matches in the same season. 2008 – Named honorable-mention All-MPSF... Averaged a team-high 2.33 digs per set... Appeared in 108 sets... Hit double digits in digs 12 times, including 10 of the final 18 matches ... Recorded 12 digs in the win over IPFW on March 14 and was named to the ASICS All-Tournament Team ... Finished 15th in the nation and eighth in the MPSF in digs per game ... On Jan. 11 in Hawaii, had a career-high 19 digs in the four-game win ... Second on the team in assists with 63. 2007 – Appeared in 99 sets averaging 1.69 digs per set... Finished second on the team with his 167 total digs, but led the team in dig average... Hit double figures in digs seven times, including a career-high seven digs at Cal State Northridge on Feb. 15... His lone kill of the year came against Northridge on Jan. 5 at the UCSB Tournament. 2006 – Appeared in 71 sets and 27 matches on the season... Averaged 0.54 digs per game garnering 38 digs overall. 2005 – Redshirted for the 49ers.
