Steven Toyoji graduated from Redmond High School (Redmond, Wash.) in 2004, where he competed in wheelchair basketball and track and field all four years. Toyoji currently attends the University of Arizona, where he expects to graduate in winter 2009 with a degree in marketing.

In Bejing, Toyoji competed in three events, including the 400m T52, 800m T52 and the men's marathon T52.

Toyoji earned the Lions Club Community Service Award in 2001 and the Colt Maxwell Courage Award in 2001. In 2003, he was Homecoming King at Redmond High School. 

When not training or competing, Toyoji enjoys fishing, golf, reading and watching Seattle Seahawks football.
