MAJOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: 2011 – Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico (Silver Medal)... Competed in July in the 2011 Continental Cup in Kettering, England. 2010 – WOVD World Cup in Port Said, Egypt (Fifth Place)… Parapan American Championship in Denver, Colo. (Silver Medal). 2009 – Parapan American Championship in Montreal, Canada (Gold Medal). 2007 – Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Silver Medal).
MAJOR INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2011 – Was a member of the Parapan American Team that won the silver medal in Guadalajara, Mexico... Was part of the team that competed in two exhibition matches against Canada in a joint training camp that won both matches... Competed with the U.S. Men's Sitting Team as it finished eighth at the 2011 Continental Cup in Kettering, England. 2010 – Was a member of the teams that finished fifth at the WOVD World Cup in Port Said, Egypt and that took the silver medal at the Parapan American Championship in Denver, Colo. 2007 – Won a silver medal with the team that competed at the Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
PERSONAL: Born Hugo Storer in 1963 in San Juan, Puerto Rico… Parents are Norman H. Storer and Milagros Padro… Hugo has three brothers – Norman D. Storer, Johnny Garcia and Luis Alberto Garcia – and two sisters – Margarita Garcia and Lissa Garcia… Hugo started playing volleyball in 1975… He attended University of Puerto Rico High School in Rio Piedras from 1976-81… He attended the University of Puerto Rico and graduated in 1989 with a degree in secondary education… While in college he played on teams that were the men’s volleyball champion in 1981 and ’82 and served as an assistant coach on teams that won that honor in 2001 and ’02… Hugo competed at the 1988, '92 and '96 Paralympic Games in the shot put... He finished fourth as a member of the Paralympic Standing Volleyball Team in 2000 in Sydney... Hugo lost his right leg above the knee when he was hit by a car in which the driver had fallen asleep… He has been hit by cars twice in his life… He was featured in Sports Illustrated on Aug. 14, 1995… His favorite foods are Oreo Cookies and Cap’n Crunch cereal… His hobbies include martial arts… His mother is his “most admired person” because “she gave me all the strength I now have to deal with whatever life throws at me”… Says his happiest moments in life were the births of his children, daughter Camila and son Hugo Sebastian... Has been a member of the U.S. Standing (disabled) or Sitting Volleyball Teams since 1997 and is working toward competing in his fifth Paralympic Games in Brazil in 2016.
