A competitor from birth, SBX was a natural fit for Jason Smith, who joined the U.S. Snowboarding roster in 2003. "Growing up in Colorado and being part of the mountains, snowboarding is such a good way to stay in touch with the mountains whether it's back in Colorado or traveling around the world," Smith said of his draw to the sport. He successfully made the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team, finishing sixth, and hopes to boost things higher in 2010.
While 2009 didn't bring the type of results Smith was looking for, it did bring a renewed sense of dedication to the seven-year team veteran, who has been known to sleep in his truck in the parking lot at the Center of Excellence in order to maximize his training time. "After my second crappiest season ever - in a row - I am looking to turn things around." His summer training has gone above and beyond what he's done in the past and Smith is looking prepared for 2010.
Chalk another rider up to sibling influence as Smith credits older brother Eric with his intro to snowboarding. "My older brother starting snowboarding,
so I just started to snowboard." Clean, simple easy.
