Fun Facts: Ian Silverman was born with mild cerebral palsy and has undergone muscle lengthening surgery to lower extremities, as well as serial casting and Botox injections; however, this has not stopped Silverman from swimming. Now, Silverman is a freshman at the University of Southern California, where he competes against able-bodied Division I athletes. His first Paralympic experience was at the 2012 London Paralympic Games, which he dedicated it to his best friend and teammate, Alec J. Cosgarea, who tragically passed on July 9, 2012.
