PERSONAL: Born Alexis Shifflett on May 12, 1996, in Owatonna, Minn. … Parents are John and Katie Shifflett… Has two sisters, Natalie and Michaela… Attends Waseca High School in Waseca, Minn., where she first started playing volleyball in 2008, and will graduate in 2014… Was born with a disorder where she was missing one of her fibulas and her leg was significantly shorter than the other. The leg was amputated below the knee when she was 11 months old… Was introduced to sitting volleyball by U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team Assistant Coach Cara Lang. “I was playing in a club volleyball tournament and she was coaching a team from another town in Minnesota,” Lexi said. “She came up and asked if I ever heard of it and if I would be interested in the game. I ended up flying to Oklahoma that week last minute. But I instantly fell in love with the game.”... Her favorite food is a Philly cheese steak sandwich… Her favorite books are The Hunger Games series… She listens to country/pop music and her favorite band is BoyslikeGirls… Her favorite professional team is the Minnesota Vikings and her favorite athlete is Brett Favre... She enjoys playing sports and working... The happiest moment in her life was when, in 2008, “my family surprised my sisters and I at three o’clock in the morning that we were going to Disney world.”… She admires her parents because, “they have always been there for me and they do everything.”
