Self was a four-year starter, three-year captain in soccer at Humboldt State University where she claimed three first team all league and one first team all region honors. She was a member of Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years. Following Graduate School Self worked full time as a Physical Therapist at SCOR Physical Therapy in San Clemente, CA. Self began playing handball in September 2012 with LAWTHC following the Huntington Beach Handball Tournament.
