Starting off in high school, Daniel Rizzieri quickly became a rising star when it came to the sport of track and field. As a child, Rizzieri enjoyed playing basketball and football, but when he got to high school he was looking for a new challenge.

He tried the discus and shot put in his first season, moved on to triple jump and long jump in his second season and realized that with hard work and determination, he could be extremely successful at this sport.

Rizzieri, a double below-the-knee amputee from birth, will be competing at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in the 400m (T44), 4x100 (T42-46) and Long Jump (F44). It will be his first international event. He said, “It means a lot that I made the team when it seems like so few were picked.”

Rizzieri currently attends Finger Lakes Community College and while he’s going to school, he’s also working to qualify for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
