FIGURE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

 

Natalie Motley of Alexandria, VA is a six time USA Team member (’06, ’08-’12) and a four time World Championship Silver Medalist in the Inline Women’s Free Skating event. This summer, Natalie was awarded the 2011 Artistic Athlete of the Year by USA Roller Sports during the Hall of Fame reception. Natalie is a dedicated and award winning athlete not only in her sport of Inline Figure Skating, but also on the track team at school as well as volunteering for Special Olympic skating events. This disciplined young lady is also a member of the National Honor Society at school.

Future goals you hope to obtain as a skater: To strive for excellence through practices and continue to improve in speed, endurance and grace. I would love to continue to make the world team and encourage others to skate and help them appreciate the fun and challenges of the sport.

First place at Southeastern Regional competition  2004-2011; eight time national medalist.

United States National Elementary Inline Champion 2005; Silver medalist for Elementary Inline in 2004; Silver and Bronze medalists in World Class Ladies Inline event at U.S. Nationals 2006 and 2007


Other awards and/or honors received outside of roller sports: Cobra track team award for endurance runs (800m and 1500m). Silver medalist in the 800 meter.

Presidential Physical Fitness award recipient for 4 consecutive years.

 

Special Olympics skating volunteer -- developed programs, prepared skaters for competitions, and encouraged good sportsmanship.



Other sports you currently participate in: Short and endurance competitive track races.    I enjoy ballet.  I have taken several years of Cecchetti ballet--very structured and discipline form of ballet.  I also regularly participate in Pilates for core strengthening.



Who is your favorite sports figure: Carolina Kostner


Who is the person you most admire/greatest influence in your life and why: My parents, coaches and my brothers. They have supported me in every practice and competition, through the ups and downs.



List your hobbies: Learning different languages and about different cultures; reading novels, sewing skating dresses, and ice skating.



What music do you listen to during training or competition? Soft rock and oldies.



What makes you a unique and special person:  I am quite and deliberate at my studies and practices, but  I always feel really good at the close of each day because I know I have worked hard and tried my best and hopefully along the way I positively influenced a stranger, friend or family member.



Favorite food before a competition: Plain yogurt with granola mixed in—yes this is true! Also egg Brioche from the BuzzJ


Favorite movie: WALL-E


Favorite place to shop: Kohl’s for clothes, Starbucks for cappuccinos and DSW for shoes!


Most prized possession: Memories of skating competitions and good times with friends and family.
