Who is the person you most admire/greatest influence in your life and why: Kelly Vander Lans, my god mother was one of the most amazing women to ever walk on this earth but unfortunately was taken from us this year. Throughout her eight year fight with breast cancer she always kept a positive outlook on life, never let her disease slow her down, and never complained why me. She always urged my mom to get her yearly mammograms because she was diagnosed with breast cancer so young. Kelly was right to push my mom because only a few years after Kelly was diagnosed they found cancer on my mom. When my mom told Kelly the news all she could say was “God gave me cancer so we could find yours”. My mom never had went in for her mammograms yearly but after Kelly was diagnosed and pushed her to go in and they were able to find my mom’s cancer at stage one. Not only did Kelly show me that no matter what hand you are given to never give up, but she also may have saved my mom’s life. If my mom hadn’t gone in for those appointments they may not have found the cancer until it was too late.
