Competed in May with the U.S. Men’s Sitting Team in the Sarajevo Open in Bosnia-Herzegovina. 2010 – Sitting World Championships (10th place)... WOVD World Cup in Port Said, Egypt (Fifth Place). 2009 – Parapan American Championship in Montreal, Canada (Gold Medal). 2007 – Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro (Silver Medal). 2006 – Sitting Volleyball World Championships, Roermond, The Netherlands.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2011 – Helped the U.S. Men's Sitting Team to a silver medal at the Parapan American Games. Unfortunately, the team was beaten by Brazil in the gold medal match and did not qualify for the 2012 Paralympic Games. 2010 – Edgardo was part of the team that competed in two exhibition matches against Canada in a joint training camp that won both matches. Helped the U.S. Men's Sitting Team to 10th place at Sitting World Championships in Oklahoma... Edgardo appeared in 25 sets for the U.S. men and averaged 1.04 "excellent" receptions per set. He also tallied 28 kills, 1.00 per set, and 11 stuff blocks, 0.04 per set.
PERSONAL: Born Edgardo Laforest in 1967 in San Juan, Pureto Rico. Parents are Fritz Laforest and Mercedes Betancourt... Edgardo has a brother, Daniel, and two sisters, Sonia and Raquel… He married Frances Principe and they have three daughters, Kiara, Eileen, and Keymarie… Edgardo graduated from Medardo Carazo High School in Trujilo Alto, Purto Rico in 1985… He began playing club volleyball in 1986 with the Trujillo Alto Dolphins... Edgardo played volleyball at the University of Puerto Rico for two years, and graduated in 1991 with a degree in biology… Edgardo says that the craziest thing he has ever done was swimming with sharks…. He says the happiest moment in his life was the birth of his daughters.
