Personal: Justin Hurd was born in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Growing up in the small town of Brownsville, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, and camping. As a teenager he lived in Monterey, CA, where surfing was his favorite activity, closely followed by an array of after school sports. Always a competitive spirit and looking for new challenges, he dabbled in baseball, football, wrestling, cross country, soccer, and track and field. Justin originally joined track and field to pole vault, setting school records, and began distance running only when a broken wrist his junior year kept him out of the air. Setting high school distance records in the mile and cross country, Justin raced two seasons of track and one season of cross country. After graduating he worked full time at a ski resort in Lake Tahoe and on a fishing boat in Alaska that following summer.  Resuming school and sports, he transferred from Hartnell Junior College to the University of California Davis, where he studied Exercise Biology. Although collegiate running kept him very occupied, Justin raced triathlons in the summer months.  While in college, he worked at Davis Wheelworks and enjoyed Mexican food from the best restaurant of all time: El Mariachi in Davis, CA. Current employment entails working as a Cardiovascular Technician for Heart Center of the Rockies. Triathlon is a perfect fit for Justin, who is a jack of many trades. Although triathlon is his main love and focus, the offseason provides time to ride the mountain bike, ski, snowboard, and snowshoe. Still partial to a good Mole Poblano burrito and tall glass of horchata, you will currently find Justin living and training in Fort Collins, Colorado with his faithful dog Chip.
