Grogan is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia’s master’s program in Kinesiology and a member of the Athens Bulldog Swim Club (ABSC), a non-profit USA Swimming registered organization based at UGA. Grogan is a single-leg amputee due to an autoimmune disease called focal scleroderma, which causes deposits of collagen in the skin and organs. Though she wore casts as a young child, Grogan underwent surgery at age seven to receive a prosthetic leg. It was then that she began swimming more competitively with the Macon Waves club team in Macon, Ga. In high school, Grogan joined the Georgia Blazers, a state team for youth with physical and visual disabilities and a branch of BlazeSports America, a Paralympic Sport Club which offers adaptive programs in various sports throughout the country.
Grogan is currently one of the top-three swimmers in her classification for the 400-meter freestyle, having recorded a first-place finish in that event at the 2013 Spring Can-Am Para Swimming Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., in April. Grogan is also competitive in several other sprint and distance events ranging from the 50m freestyle to the 200m Individual Medley, making her a valuable and versatile member of the 2013 U.S. Paralympics Emerging Team.
Grogan is a “Double Dogger,” having attended UGA for both her undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Grogan has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and enjoys practicing photography in her free time.
