Mike Glasder grew up in the Chicago suburb of Cary, Ill., not far from the Norge Ski Club jumps, spending his childhood with two brothers, Chris and Dennis. The Olympic Winter Games have always been a dream of his, and up until a few years ago seemed pretty farfetched.
As a young athlete, Glasder had medaled at Junior Olympics, as well as winning the USSA SuperTour overall twice, but he really never had strong international results despite making several Junior World Championship teams. Those results started to come in 2009 when he was 12th in a Continental Cup in Westby, Wis., and 14th at World Juniors.
After the winter season, Glasder moved to Lake Placid, N.Y., to base in the Olympic Training Center and train on the Olympic jumps. His international results continued to improve, qualifying for World Cups in Germany and Poland and scoring a third in a FIS Cup in Oberwiesenthal, Germany.
Gladser was first introduced to ski jumping at the age 5 by his parents because his Uncle John had been a recreational ski jumper at the Norge Ski Club for most of his life. Ever since he can remember, he has been hooked on the rush that is ski jumping. He would call the Norge Ski Club his home training venue for the next 13 years.
A nice guy who works his very hardest when it comes to training and competing...When I'm not competing, I like to fish, bike, water ski and just relax and have fun with family and friends...I've been putting 150 percent into my training for the Olympic Winter Games and am confident that I will get some good results for the U.S....One of the sayings that I live by is, "Never be outworked by anyone." This would have to be why I am so driven to compete and be the best that I can.
