Andreas Drbal met former bobsledder Brock Kreitzburg at a BBQ, and Kreitzburg introduced him to the "thrill and adrenaline sensation of the sport." Drbal's first ride down the track was "adrenaline bliss."
"Your senses are heightened to every movement the sled makes and I thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of the power and speed of a sled screaming across a mile sheet of ice," Drbal said.
Drbal threw javelin for four years while attending UCLA for degrees in English and German, and was a sprinter and hurdler at Bellarmine College Prep.
His father hails from the Czech Republic and his mother is a native of Austria. Drbal and his brother, an orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon, are first generation Americans.
Drbal is a web designer and enjoys "creating websites from scratch according to the customer's desired look and feel." He also enjoys playing the piano and engaging in digital chess games like Starcraft.
