Megan Dovell was born in Framingham, Massachusetts. Her family moved to Michigan and then to Georgia during her childhood. The native of Duluth, Georgia graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor's degree in Communications, concentrating in media studies, along with a minor in marketing. Megan Played college ice hockey and in 2012 represented Team USA on the Women's Inline Hockey team. She was first introduced to the sport of skeleton in late 2012. She was meeting a (now former) strength and conditioning coach at Kennesaw State University through a mutual friend (Todd Hamer- Head strength and conditioning coach from Robert Morris University. Where she played hockey.) She was initially going to meet him in regards to a graduate assistant position in the strength and conditioning department. He mentioned noticing her strength and power (from hockey and powerlifting) and knew the USABS was holding a combine seeking potential bobsledders in the metro-Atlanta area. He asked her if she liked adrenaline sports and told her about the USABS website. She took the combine not even knowing about skeleton. She was on the smaller stature size and he suggested she should go to a skeleton school and not bobsled. In December 2012, she went to a skeleton school, fell in love and made the commitment to the sport one year later.
