Anja Egede Borg, the younger sister of Women's National Team player Karoline Borg and two older brothers, has been playing handball since the age of seven. She holds dual-citizenship with Norway and the United States, as her mother, who passed away in 1999 due to breast cancer, is a Californian. In the fall of 2010, she started high school in Asker, Norway where she attends a special sports program with handball five times a week in addition to a regular school curriculum. For the last three years, she has participated in a special developmental program hosted by the Norwegian Handball Association. It includes monthly training sessions with other selected players from the entire Oslo region –and occasional games against other regional teams. She hopes to one day play in a major international tournament with the red, white, and blue as she thoroughly enjoyed touring Germany with a Select Team in the summer of 2010. She says that "Playing for the USA is a very nice way to reinforce my American heritage and way to honor the memory of my mother." While not playing handball, the Vollen J94's circle likes to hang out with her friends, listen to music (The Script, Kings of Leon, 30 seconds to Mars), and participate in outdoor activities (skating and sledding in the winter, swimming in the summer). Although she hopes to be a psychologist one day as she enjoys people and their well beings are of great interest to her, she also could see herself as a pediatrician.
