Amanda Bird was a competitive bobsled and skeleton athlete for over 10 years before joining the USBSF staff in Jan. 2007.  Bird received a BA in English and Journalism in 2003 and an MA in English in 2006 from the University at Albany.  Bird received the honor of delivering the valedictorian speech at her department undergraduate commencement ceremony.
 
Bird was one of the first writers to join the Albany Times Union blogging staff.  Bird continued her blogging career with the Lake Placid News as well as for NBC Olympics during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.  She is a freelance writer for Demand Studios and has several published articles on Livestrong.com.
 
In her free time Bird enjoys playing the drums, researching music, reading, painting, kayaking, hiking and exploring historic places.
