Personal
Mark Bathum began skiing at the age of 9, and just three years later discovered his passion for ski racing. Driven by his friends’ success in racing, Bathum decided to dedicate his time and energy to racing by enrolling at Mission Ridge Racing Academy, one of the first skiing academies in the Northwest. Bathum has retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye condition that causes a loss of all peripheral vision; his vision began to worsen after high school.

Bathum took a long hiatus from skiing after high school, as he attended college and spent several years living in Europe and Los Angeles. He returned to slopes in time to compete at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, where he and guide Slater Story took home silver in downhill. He is now a member of the U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing National Team for the 2013-14 season.

In addition to training and traveling to races, Bathum works fulltime as the Director of Business Development at Cobalt ADP. He also stays busy with investing, following politics, reading and cooking.
