MICHAEL D. ENGLISH
Chief of Sport Operations
Mike English was named chief of sport operations for the United States Olympic Committee on Sept. 1, 2010, after previously serving as the chief of sport performance since June 1, 2009. Prior to that, he had served as the organization’s managing director of athlete facilities and services since May 2005.
In his current role, English oversees the USOC’s network of U.S. Olympic Training Centers, including locations in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Lake Placid, N.Y.; and Chula Vista, Calif., as well as other USOC facilities.
English joined the USOC staff in August 2004 as the director of the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and oversaw the center’s overall training service functions and operations. English came to the USOC from Quantum Corporation, where he had been employed since January 1985 in numerous managerial positions.
A member of the U.S. Shooting National Team from 1978-88, English was a resident athlete at the OTC in Colorado Springs from 1981-86. A five-time national champion, English earned a gold medal at the 1981 World Championships and is a three-time Pan American Games medalist (1983-gold, bronze; 1987-gold).
From April 2001-August 2004, English was president and chairman of the USA Shooting board of directors. He previously served as the National Governing Body’s vice president and Athletes’ Advisory Council Representative from 1996-2000 and was also an athlete director on the USA Shooting board (1988-96).
English has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Regis University in Colorado Springs.
