The United States began celebrating Olympic Day in 2009, and it has continued to grow each year. In 2015, more than 620,000 people in 1,297 communities across the United States hosted 1,820 Olympic Day celebrations. There were 11 international locations that hosted an Olympic Day 2015 celebration. Host organizations and cities joined more than 930 Olympians and Paralympians in celebrating Olympism in their communities.
Athletes led discussions with youth about the Olympic Values of excellence, friendship and respect. Sport demonstrations, fun runs and festivals also helped introduce young people to Olympic and Paralympic sport.
